If you have a window this Sunday then we want to direct you to a free film screening guaranteed to improve your day. If you visited our Slam shop in Neal’s Yard during the nineties you would remember Nick Phillips, a friendly face always. You can still find him out there shredding any bowl on the radar over twenty years later. We were stoked to hear that Nick has written and directed a film, turning dreams and what-ifs into the visual journey you can embark on this Sunday. Here is a synopsis of the tale in Nick’s own words…
“I’ve probably spent an embarrassing portion of my life watching skate videos and I am also interested in story-telling, particularly visual story-telling. I wanted to apply that moving camera aesthetic you get in a skate vid to telling a story that’s not about skateboarding. In this case, the story is about a man on surveillance operation for MI5 THAT goes badly wrong and the stakes keep getting higher and higher. I also wanted to show that breathtaking visual narrative is possible with just a camera and a skateboard. And some balls and imagination.”
This was created by a three man crew. Nick directing, Dino acting and Slam team rider Jacob Elliott Harris filming on four wheels. Sharp eyes might even spot a Seth Curtis cameo. We are excited for Nick, it’s always good to see your friends communicate their vision. We also know that with Jacob Elliott Harris at the helm the camera work will be easy on the eyes. The screenings will be hosted in the 100-seat cinema space at House Of Vans in Waterloo on Sunday 4th November at 4pm and 5pm. Screenings are Free and no booking is required – walk in tickets are available on a first come, first served rule.
Head to House Of Vans in Waterloo and make this screening part of your weekend. We hope to see you there!
